Vervet monkey Masai Mara National Reserve, Kenya. While staying in a camp on the edge of the reserve, I had a little time to kill after an excellent lunch and decided to watch the monkeys hanging around the nearby Mara River. By chance, I caught this one looking at its hand. Whenever I show people pictures from that trip, this is the one that's remarked upon. I think people connect with that apparent self-awareness.
