'Web Designer - Eva Valley, NT Aust' The spider is a rainbow horned orb weaver. They are quite small (about 15mm across) and are usually a good macro subject (very colourful). This one was busily building a web in a paperbark swamp near my home. Unusually, it was building the web in the horizontal plane. I was able to position myself so that the web was strongly backlit by the low sun. The spider was working fast so I had to increase the ISO to 800 to get a satisfactory shutter speed (lens was a fully manual macro lens - not sure of the aperture). Although I'd normally stick with colour for this subject, the black and white version removed some distracting rainbow effects in the web (diffraction caused by the strong backlighting).
