This image is an 87 frame focus bracket of a living paper wasp I found this past fall on an early morning macro outing. It was displaced from its nest and mostly still due to the colder temperatures.

I used the focus bracketing feature with my OM-1 and M.Zuiko 90mm 2x Macro IS PRO to get all of the frames, firing with flash at 10fps. I also used the Godox V860III and Cygnustech diffuser.

Some may think that 87 frames is overkill, but I maximized magnification to preserve as many details as possible. The 87 frames are what the camera decided I needed at the narrowest focus differential.

Hi Benjamin, impressive macro shot. I'm also using the bracketing feature of the OM-1, but don't know how to "ask" the camera how many frames are needed. So it's trial and error in my case concerning the selection of the needed number of frames. And: seeing this photo I'm tempted to buy the 90mmm macro lense, too!
Best regards
Andy

Hey Andy! The focus differential is a bit of trial and error. When I first got my Olympus E-M1 MKII a few years ago, my macro peers told me they liked using 3 or 4 focus differential with the M.Zuiko 60mm. With my shooting style, I found out I actually preferred 2 because I felt it gave me more forgiveness with handheld stacking. 2 meant more narrow differential and more frames needed, but I ended up sticking with that. I think I had my frames set to 100 even though I rarely actually needed or used 100 frames. Depending on the magnification, the camera will fire down range and just keep going even if it's past the subject. At that point you can just hit the shutter again and stop the bracketing. When I got my 90mm, I began this weird quest for ultimate details and have been shooting with a 1 focus differential. In some situations it's overkill, but I also feel like I'm getting some of my most detailed macro work. I also bumped up my number of frames to 150 because the buffer on my UHS-II SD card hits at about 140ish and a 1 differential at 2x magnification sometimes uses all 150 frames. Let me know if you have any specific questions!

Thank you very much for the very detailed and helpful answer.

This is so damn near perfect. The only thing I'd change is to see a slightly wider crop. Possibly the full antennae.

Thank you for the feedback!
