The city of Calgary was covered in a thick blanket of hoar frost and I couldn't resist taking out my new Nikon Zf for a test drive. Found this old school with a beautiful old tree covered in frost. The natural light was defused by all the fog in the air. The 24-120mm f4 lens provided great flexibility to frame this image. Adjustments in LR for crop, contrast, shadows, and PS to remove a no skateboarding sign from the wall and some signs on the windows.

Mark wonderful image, love your framing with the frost encrusted branches. Nice balance of tree and building with fine detail throughout, detail above the doorway. And 1913, makes me wonder if the tree was just a little sapling or even planted then.
Thanks Paul for the comment. Greatly appreciated! It took some time to frame the branches without obscuring details in the building. I was trying to include the name of the school above the doorway but the composition didn't work. The year was a key detail for the image and I'm glad you noticed it. There is a row of massive trees in front of the school so I assume your assumption is correct. Thanks again!
Mark, the missing School name a non-issue for me. Personally I think it’s a better image without it, what would it add visually, really. Actually what you’ve done visually is see where the name is draws the viewer in looking for it, seeing the doorway detail and frosty limbs and branches they forget about the name above the door follow the branches right to the whole image. That’s just my opinion. And after all you don’t want to create a Mesa Arch, Skogafoss, or heaven forbid a Jeffery Pine, Sentinel Dome (see Ansel Adams).
