Shot on Canon 6D, released in 2012. As a tourist, I knew that the Rainbow Estate in HK is a popular spot, but I was still not quite prepared to see this. It was a lucky snap - the people at that moment just lined up perfectly.
Inspired by the ultra-saturated tones of the Superflat art movement and retro-style illustrations, combining it with a washed-out/faded look, my work is an attempt to develop a different aesthetic that forces the contrast to come from colors (hue/saturation), rather than lightness. The intention is to transform a famous spot used a backdrop for numerous social media posts and present it in a unique way, making the viewer ask himself if he is looking at a drawing, a render or a photo.
This could be a scene in a Wes Anderson movie
I thought it was a painting at first.
