The light is made by steel wool in a whisk tied to the end of a chain and set on fire, then waved around in various patterns. We shot a number of these at the beach. Tripod and remote release, 10 second shutter. Careful if you try this, it throws a lot of sparks off and a photographer accidentally burned down part of the famous Point Reyes shipwreck doing a steel wool shoot a few years back.
