Fireflies and Starry Skies
Fireflies dance under the Milky Way on the New River in the mountains of North Carolina.
To creat this image first I used a blue hour shot, shot at f/8 iso 50. All of the rest of the images were taken at f/2.8 iso 1600 and 30 seconds. I used the f/8 blue hour shot as my base layer image. Then blended in 1 shot at f2.8 for the Milly Way and then 68 additional images to blend in the fireflies using the lighten blend mode in photoshop.
The Milky Way isn’t super visible due to some moon light and clouds. It couldn’t be seen at all with the naked eye and I was surprised to see it show up on camera. If I could do one thing differently I would have used a faster shutter speed for my f/2.8 images. Just so my stars would be sharper.
If you zoom in on this or view on a larger screen you can really see just how many fireflies there are.
