A gruesome but rare sight of a male grizzly bear consuming his first meal of the year. It took several days before the bear was finally able to pull the submerged bison carcass out of the frozen lake. This is a behavior that this particular grizzly bear has repeated the last several years, having learned that, as the ice begins to melt, bison fall through and drown in the water.
