I have always wanted to photograph a portrait of a swallow in flight with a telephoto lens, but was never able to get a decent sharp shot because of how fast and erratic they are. The Canon EOS R3 has a secret weapon which made this shot possible: a special mode which allows me to capture 50 frames at a rate of 195 frames per second. I positioned myself a few meters down below a natural bump in the path and pre focussed on a little twig. There was absolutely no way for me to track and focus on these flying bullets at 600mm so instead I timed the exposure as best as I could. I waited for a swallow to come careering down the path and pressed the shutter milliseconds before it got to the twig! I then had to choose the 1 frame amongst 50 which has the eyes in focus!

I've been trying to photograph these little suckers without success, so I applaud your success!

Nice, very sharp. Great job

if I'm being honest, looks like a 3x2, and the bird is high in the shot. And it almost appears that the bottom of the image is software bokeh'd or something with a hard-line of demarcation or maybe you used a simple Gaussian blur. Either way, there is little reason to keep that aspect.
