There was an ongoing road construction near my home and I noticed how the exposed ground had cracked under the intense heat. With temperatures rising, it felt like a small but telling symptom of how climate change is affecting even the most mundane parts of our urban spaces. I placed a dry leaf on the cracked surface to convey a sense of fragility and highlight the harshness of the environment. The image was taken using natural light in the early morning, allowing the textures to stand out without being washed out by midday sun. I used a Sony A6400 paired with a Tamron 17-70mm f/2.8 lens, shooting around f/5.6 to preserve detail throughout the frame. The challenge was avoiding harsh shadows from my own body while getting the overhead perspective, which required awkward positioning and careful timing. Despite its simplicity, the photo speaks to a deeper issue about the heat beneath our feet and the quiet warnings our surroundings give us.
