WWII Veteran Bob Stauffer was a B17 Pilot in Europe in 1944. in 2006 I was able to facilitate one last flight on a B17 at Willow Run Michigan for him. I Shot on a Mamiya RZ 67 Pro II, Kodak Portra 160 NC, Profoto 7B with just the 7 inch bare reflector on a high 45 degree angle. I wanted a very authentic portrait of him, all the years and wrinkles show us his history. The biggest challenge was keeping the shadow from his hat off his eyes while keeping a dramatic angle on the light for the shaping of his face. I wanted to mimic the hard ambient light on the plane so he remained a part of it and not separated from his surroundings but also have him "pop" just a bit.
