This photograph presents a styled scarecrow character captured on location at Allaire State Park, (NJ) using controlled off-camera flash to shape and refine natural light. The focus is placed entirely on expression, costume detail, and color, allowing the character to stand on its own without reliance on environmental context.
A Godox AD200 was used as off-camera fill light, paired with a SmallRig 65 cm octagonal softbox. The flash was carefully balanced with ambient light to gently lift facial shadows, enhance texture, and maintain a natural, believable look appropriate for an outdoor setting. This approach preserves depth and contrast while ensuring consistent illumination across the subject.

I like this photo and appreciate the effort in making it. Really caught my attention. Great colors. Nice big eyes draw you into the portrait. The only problem for me is that her face has nice warm tones, but her hand looks cold in comparison. Maybe raise the red and yellow in her fingers, perhaps, to balance with facial tones?
Oh... I love the wry smile. Like I should be happy about something, but I'm really not. We've all been there.
Thank you Ed. I appreciate your comment. I see what you mean about the hand color. She is wearing makeup on her face but I could probably even out her hand like suggested.
