This was my biggest goal to photograph. I went to France by plane a few years ago. And this unbelievable place people don`t believe exists when they just see a picture of it.. was may main goal to capture. But when I was going to order the train ticket from Paris, everything was sold out. All bus tickets and no means to get there. And it was in a November month.. The disappointment almost made me an ulcer. So last year, wise from experience, I took my car. This was again my main photographic goal. And to get there I also drove through Germany, Belgium, Luxembourgh and the Netherlands on the way. Arriving at night in a late November month, it was my biggest photodream conquered. At once, I couldn`t see anything out there in the Atlantic. But after some scouting, I could finally see something far out in the sandbanks.. a very diffuse silhouette.. because of a slight lightning far away over the Atlantic sea. Something big.. something outherwordly.. something that legendary.. that by no means ever should be possible to exist on a enormous flat empty place like this.. I spent two days here. Unfortunately with terrible light conditions. So BW was something I chose on several of the photos. The construction of this wonder of the world, Mont Saint Michèl, began in 708. Other facts are: It`s never been conquered despite countless wars until ww2. Much of it because of extreme tidal. When the tidal comes, it comes in the speed of a running horse, and rises 46 feet. The sandbanks turn in to quicksand! So no joke this place. It`s been developed several times up to the 1500`s. After that only smaller enhancements. 150 years ago there was 1200 permanent residents there. Today, there is about 30 permanent residents living there. Most of them Munks and Nuns. And some families running the souvenir shops, hotels and restaurants. When I shot this, I was lucky there was a chinese couple there photographing each other, so I secretely took advantage of the girl as an add on to my photo. This is in my own opinion my best photography.
