F.A.Z. Tower, Frankfurt

One of three photographs form a coherent series of in-camera multiple exposures of skyscrapers in Frankfurt’s financial district.

Seen from a low viewpoint, the buildings are reduced to strong verticals, repeating grids and geometric shapes. The multiple exposures shift and overlap the architectural structures, creating a tension between precision and abstraction. The high-contrast black-and-white treatment and dark skies further unify the images and emphasize form, rhythm and scale.

My fascination with modern architecture - especially its straight lines, geometry and repetitive structures - was the starting point for this personal project. Rather than photographing the buildings conventionally, I wanted to deconstruct and reconstruct them photographically. The multiple exposures are created entirely in-camera, using the camera’s technical possibilities as part of the creative process. Because the exposures have to align and interact successfully, I prefer clear, distraction-free conditions that allow me to concentrate on the architecture itself.

Working in a series also gives me the opportunity to explore the same idea with different buildings, perspectives and compositions.
