A large adult Red Diamondback Rattlesnake stands its ground and stares down the front of my lens while crossing a trail in Southern California. Despite its formidable appearance and toxic venom, even an intimidating rattlesnake is still far more interested in avoiding conflict with people whenever possible.

I love that the photographer captured such a scary, up-close moment while still explaining that the snake just wanted to do its own thing and avoid trouble. Super intense & unsettling!
