Netflix is releasing "Kodachrome" soon. It's about the journey to the last Kodachrome development lab. It's out on April 20, and if this trailer is anything to go by, it's going to be good.
It's got a good cast, with Ed Harris, who has played roles in "Apollo 13" and "A Beautiful Mind," Jason Sudeikis, who I laughed at endlessly in "Horrible Bosses," and it stars Elizabeth Olson, who's been a "Captain America" franchise staple. She's Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen's younger sister, which makes me feel very old.
It's a movie named after the classic Kodachrome film stock, with a storyline of a sick photographer discovering four spools of the film, a journey to find the last lab that can develop it, the documentation of moments, of being ill as well as of enjoyment, all of which seem to coexist in the movie. The coloring of the film also lends itself to the movies captured on film, and the scenes are reminiscent of a past time. It looks like it'll be a very enjoyable film, and of course, us photographers should like it twice as much. Check it out when it comes out later this month!
will see...... nothing beats the 1983 movie Under Fire or the bang bang club from 2010.
BIG fan of Bang Bang Club. Really slipped under the radar.
Wow thanks for bringing up The Bang Bang Club. Never heard of the film adaptation, so now I have something to watch tonight!
I might catch some flak over this, but I thoroughly enjoyed the new Secret Life of Walter Mitty and how it approached photography (except for Sean Pean using a G series lens on a Nikon F3. Guess he didn't care about aperture control!).
I'm with you. I loved Walter Mitty. Watch it regularly. That idea of a fanatical reality is always something that grabs my attention. The fact that they work the relationship between a photo editor and a photographer and touch on the 'zen' of wildlife photography and I'm a sucker for it.
Glad I’m not alone! Certainly an underrated film.
Wow!! Missed this one. Looks like a lot of fun. Thanks!
What a bizarre piece of criticism :S
Could it be possible that this is what the guy drove last?
Yes, the last lab to process Kodachrome was in Parsons, Kansas. I grew up in Kansas and visited Parsons quite a few times. Should be interesting to watch.
really nice colorgrading, like this film deserves! :-)
I have a feeling this is going to be a classic "shitty dad" movie but with a hipster twist i.e:Leicas and film roll sprinkled in there for nostalgia effect.
At least that's the vibe I'm getting from the trailer.
me too.
As the adage goes, there's nothing new in Hollywood. At least they're giving us some fun camera candy. A healthy dose of Ed Harris in character isn't too bad either.
I'M still going to watch it. Just that I'm not banking too much on it.
yeeeeep.
It's a rom-com for people with nostalgia and daddy issues.
