8K Video, 480 Frames per Second, and an Internal Gimbal: All in a Phone?

Prefer traveling with a smartphone only but still want to take perfect shots?  With the latest imaging system co-engineered with ZEISS, the vivo X70 Pro+ shoots high-quality videos and fits inside your pocket, so you can easily take pictures of any moment.

Thanks to significant advancements in technology, smartphones have transformed in recent years. Phones now not only fill the roles of map, tour guide, and personal assistant, they also are fitted with high-quality cameras for an excellent, portable filmmaking experience.

The vivo X70 Pro+ features the latest technology. Fitted with a 50-megapixel GN1 sensor, a 48-megapixel ultra-wide camera with gimbal stabilization, and versatile zoom features, this smartphone creates the smoothest cinematic video yet. It even comes with vivo’s ground-breaking V1 chip to capture sharper images even in low-light and dark environments, so you can use it anytime, anywhere.

With all this technology, how could I pass up the chance to take the X70 Pro+ for a spin? As a videographer myself, I know how valuable it is to have the freedom to create videos on the go. But how was it to film with?

vivo X70 Pro+ Video Performance: What Impressed Me the Most

I took the phone out with me on a walk through the center of Paris. I wanted to see if it could handle a "day in the life" style video, transitioning through different light scenarios, weather, and busy environments.

I was immediately impressed by how easy the video mode was to use. The phone’s camera app is intuitive and gets you shooting in an instant. There is nothing in the way. You can choose the lens with a tap and get more specific with a drag to zoom in or out. And it uses optical zoom, not digital, so there is no loss in video quality. The camera already shoots remarkable 8K video and can capture at 480 fps, which I talk more about in the Resolution and Frame Rates sections in the video. There’s a lot in there for a phone.

It’s built for smooth tracking shots, using an Ultra-Wide Gimbal Main Camera and innovative EIS (Electronic Image Stabilization). These work together, with the gimbal system reducing micro-jitters and the EIS reducing misaligned framing to produce sleek, cinematic pans. Even when I was running, as you can see in the Stabilization section, the stabilization technology reduced jitters and shakes, creating smooth tracking shots.

The X70 Pro+ uses the ultra-wide gimbal main camera to achieve 360° horizon-leveling stabilization. No matter how I rotated the phone or changed angles, the horizon line stayed level, elegantly capturing the incredible landmarks around me. This unbelievable technology maintained a level horizon whether I was running or walking.

The phone also comes with a 12-megapixel telephoto camera for 2x zoom and an 8-megapixel periscope camera for 5x optical zoom. It’s impressive. As you can see with the focus on the apple in The Lenses section, you can shoot detail not possible with any other phone I’ve ever owned or tested.

As I moved into the metro, the phone was able to handle the low lighting. The X70 Pro+ is equipped with Super Night Video, which enables brightening and noise reduction in low-light and dark environments. Owing to the V1 chip’s AI technology, it even coped with transitioning seamlessly from dark to light as I exited the station in the camera’s AI sample.

vivo has also designed a Pro Cinematic Mode for professionals and budding amateurs to take their videos to the next level. It comes with a video log mode, zoom support, focal distance mark, adjustable audio level, and immersive monitoring video interface. This gives videographers the tools to create even more professional-looking videos. I found this mode useful for creating higher-quality videos and could edit them in the camera application on the phone.

More Than Its Camera: Why the vivo X70 Pro+ Is the Ideal Travel Smartphone

We all know that battery life can make or break your day, especially on holiday, when you’re using your phone all the time. But this is no longer a problem with the vivo X70 Pro+. The phone comes with a 4,500mAh (TYP) ultra-large battery. Paired with a wireless charging dock, it can reach 50 W peak charging power in a vertical placement. I took the phone out for the day and didn’t have any risk of it dying on me.

It’s also smart. The industry-leading Samsung WQHD display on the X70 Pro+, using LTPO technology, can dynamically adjust refresh rates between 1 Hz and 120 Hz to further reduce power consumption and improve the display effect at low grayscale levels. While I had the camera active and wasn’t using it, it would switch off the screen and tell me to touch the screen when I wanted to shoot to save battery. And I didn’t have to unlock it again. I just tapped and got the shots I wanted. This is an intuitive user experience.

In addition to achieving reduced power consumption and an improved display effect, the X70 Pro+ screen also supports 1 billion colors, 1,440 x 3,200 resolution, 517 PPI density, higher image fidelity, and richer, more intricate image details and colors. It also comes with 500-nit normal maximum brightness, 1,000-nit HBM brightness, and 1,500-nit local peak brightness. The smartphone is designed so you can relive your favorite memories with its top-of-the-line display.

But that’s not all. Whether you’re shooting in dusty deserts or rainy forests, the vivo X70 Pro+ is adventure-proof. The phone has achieved an IP68 rating, the highest water- and dust-resistance level. Its display, frame, back cover, speaker, USB port, receiver, physical buttons, and microphone hole are all water-resistant.

Conclusion

This smartphone gives you all the highest-quality professional features in the palm of your hand. The vivo X70 Pro+ is a portable high-quality video camera for amateurs and professionals alike.

The phone was able to handle inclement weather and changes in light throughout the day, thanks to its top-of-the-range waterproofing, innovative V1 chip, and Super Night Mode. It was really fun to play around with the different modes and settings, and I was consistently impressed with how it performed on the go. The stabilization and 360° horizon-leveling blew me away and created incredibly sleek, smooth pans.

Not only is the camera high performing for smooth takes in all light levels, but its long-life battery, durability, and outstanding display make the X70 Pro+ a well-rounded filmography tool. vivo has entered a new era of the smartphone video camera.
