Buy a Profoto B1 or B2 and Get a Free Air Remote

Buy a Profoto B1 or B2 and Get a Free Air Remote

Just earlier this week, I was writing about going over x-sync speed with your flashes. This ability is a true game changer for any photographer who relies on artificial lighting. Between February 1st and April 30th, Profoto is running a sale that can make that step up a bit lighter on your wallet.

Until the end of April, Profoto dealers will offer you a Profoto Air Remote, Air Remote TTL-C (for Canon), Air Remote TTL-N (for Nikon), or Air Remote TTL-S (for Sony) when buying a new Profoto B1 or B2 unit. The flash transmitters included in this deal usually retail for a little over $400 USD! Let's be honest here, using a Profoto B1 or B2 without an Air Remote TTL is just like having a supercar with terribly bad tires. Without it, you won’t have access to all the cool features such as TTL and HSS – which are probably the two reasons why most people buy these strobes.

For more information regarding this offer, contact your Profoto local dealer.

Oh nowwww, they offer this...ARGH!!

I spent too much money for this transmitter and I never used TTL anyway. Than I moved from Canon to Sony and I sold it. I should buy the standard one for less. I would never buy this thing again, I am getting better results with light meter anyway.

A light meter may be more accurate than TTL, but it won't replace HSS. For someone who shoots in studio, it might not be worth it, for a wedding or action photographer it can be extremely useful though.

The way Profoto has implemented the TTL on the B1/B2 is amazing for working FAST, even if you plan on working mostly manual. I love that I can get everything set up, take a shot in TTL, then switch to manual and everything starts from the TTL test shot. Half the time it nails the exposure on the first try, anyway. But the shots I have to tweak already have a really solid starting place.

Saves me a ton of time shooting weddings.

The TTL remote is designed with a location wedding photographer in mind. Throw up a B1 or B2, slide the Air Remote into the hotshoe, and bang, you've got a perfectly lit shot.

Move on to the next setting. Speed and ease of use are the dominant factors here. Commercial shoots, where everything is prepped, tested, tested again, adjusted, tested, etc. requires different gear altogether.

It is all matter of opinions but personally I would prefer speedlites for weddings.
The thing with TTL is that I know what ratio I want on the subject and TTL can't give me that. Small screen is not a good tool to judge it in my opinion.
I found that I could predict what canon speedlite was going to do better than profoto. I usually ended up adjusting light manually multiple times. With light meter I make couple readings and I am ready to shoot.

Same here. Then again, TTL is better suited for outdoor work. In studio, the good old Air Remote (non-TTL) works much better for me.

At $419, the AirRemote is way overpriced. WAY. Even $299 would make me say "yeah, it's expensive, but it's on par with how Profoto is priced in general." I want to be upset they're running this promotion since I bought mine two years ago, but hey, I got two years of use out of it at least.

I really need them to drop the everyday price so I can buy a second one for backup/2nd shooter purposes. At $250, I wouldn't think twice about picking up another.

Couldn't agree more. When I bought a Profoto B1 about 2-3 years ago, and had to buy the remote with it, I just couldn't believe how expensive it was. Even Broncolor doesn't have a trigger that expensive!

If I knew I wouldn't basically lose $420 in the process anyway, I'd sell my B1 and buy a new one under the promotion! Ha.

Can you buy just a light or do you need to buy a kit?
