This Fatal Flaw Killed Leica’s Most Important Camera

In September 2009, Leica launched the M9. Despite the aesthetics and precision that fans love about the German manufacturer, the design contained a fatal flaw that has since slowly killed many of these cameras, rendering them useless and potentially beyond repair.

Typically, when someone buys a Leica, they can justify the high price because these cameras tend to hold their value better than anything else on the market. If and when you come to sell a Leica, you can be sure of getting a good chunk of your money back. For many owners of the M9, however, this did not prove to be the case, as this remarkable short film explains.

If you are tired of YouTubers flogging preset packs, I’d urge you to consider making an exception in the case of Casey Cavanaugh, aka GxAce. Buying presets is a great way to support artists whose work you find inspirational without being tied to a monthly payment through platforms like Patreon. I can’t attest to the quality of Cavanaugh’s presets, but his video production is on another level and deserves the community’s support.

Do you own a Leica M9 and are now waiting to see if it will suffer the same fate? Let us know in the comments below.

That is a very interesting article-video...I would have thought that Leica would be responsible enough to pick up the tab just out of sheer pride from their reputation, and then claiming it can`t be done... but thanks to American innovation from Kolari, there is hope...greetings from a non Leica owner...yes, I am one of those whiners that thinks they are way to expensive...greetings

I recently purchased a Canon R6 Mk II from Kolari. Excellent service and communication. They promptly replied to my emailed questions, and even held the shipping while I was on holiday.
