G-Technology Expands G-RACK and ev Series Product Lines with Increased Capacity, CFAST 2.0, and Atomos Integration

In an industry where product differentiation is tough because everyone has to meet similar standards, G-Technology continues to show that it can innovate on top of simply promising higher-quality products. Through partnerships with companies that creatives work with every day (such as RED Camera and Atomos), G-Technology continues to help filmmakers and photographers at every step of the creative process from capture to delivery.

Today, G-Technology announced a number of additions and updates to its product lines. Most interestingly, perhaps, are the first products from their collaboration with Atomos that was announced earlier this year.

Atomos and G-Technology

Users of Atomos products will be familiar with the Master Caddy that enables users to “clip on” their own hard drive solutions for Atomos’ external recorders. Beginning later this month, G-Technology will offer its own, high-quality Master Caddy hard drive systems in Master Caddy HD and Master Caddy 4K versions.

Both enclosed in an aluminum chassis, the Master Caddy HD features a 1 TB 7,200 RPM hard drive capable of handling recording and editing in full 1080p resolution while the 4K’s 256 GB, 512 GB, and 1 TB solid-state drives support 4K workflows at 500 MB/s speeds. While G-Technology relies on its own non-replaceable hard drives within the Master Caddy products to provide its superior quality, the G-Tech Master Caddy is fully compatible with both the Atomos Master Caddy system as well as G-Technology’s newly announced ev Series Reader Atomos Master Caddy Edition. Not only for G-Tech’s Master Caddy, this new ev Series Reader brings the flexibility you’ve always enjoyed from the ev Series flexibility to any Master Caddy product.

G-Tech’s Master Caddy products include support for all standard Master Caddy features such as drive labeling. Meanwhile, QR code label support enables tracking both the hardware itself and/or the content on each drive for true workflow flexibility. Both drives feature USB-C ports for added portability, but will ship with cables to allow for backward compatibility with the standard A-type USB 3.0 ports. These drives will be available alongside the Master Caddy reader later this month at prices from $99.95 for the reader and Master Caddy HD to $349.95 for the 1 TB Master Caddy 4K.

CFAST 2.0

On the heels of CFAST’s adoption by companies such as ARRI, BlackMagic, and Canon, G-Technology also introduced a new CFAST 2.0 ev Series Reader that can, as with all mobile ev Series products, be used within ev Docks or as a standalone reader with an included cable over a standard USB 3.0 connection. G-Technology promises that you’ll be able to get the full performance out of your CFAST cards with its reader; and for those with older cards, yes, it is backwards-compatible with CFAST 1.0 cards as well.

The CFAST 2.0 ev Series Reader will ship this month for $99.95.

G-Drive ev RaW Updates

Additionally, G-Technology updated its G-Drive ev RaW hard drive with a 2 TB option. The slightly thicker drive won’t fit in the ev ATC case, but it will still be usable with all other ev-Series products including ev Docks. The 2 TB G-Drive ev RaW is available today for $149.95.

G-RACK 12 Updates

The G-RACK 12 system features two main units: a main server unit, and an expansion chassis. While one expansion chassis per server unit was supported at launch, G-Technology recently announced the system can now support up to four expansion chassis for a total of 500 TB of storage in a protected RAID 6 environment (or 600 TB total storage). As one might expect, growing the number of expansion units brings both capacity and performance improvements.

This update comes alongside an enhancement of G-Tech’s NAS software that introduces third-party platform integration so a number of backup and media asset management systems will work seamlessly with G-RACK 12 setups.
