Canon's RF 50mm f/1.2L USM lens is absolutely spectacular, but at $2,300, it is prohibitively expensive for a lot of photographers, and many may not need its insane levels of image quality. Luckily, Canon also has the RF 50mm f/1.8 STM lens, which is just $200, representing the nifty fifty of its mirrorless lineup. How good is the lens? This great video review takes a look.
Coming to you from Christopher Frost, this excellent video review takes a look at the Canon RF 50mm f/1.8 STM lens. Though it is the affordable 50mm lens in the lineup, it still comes with a variety of great features, including:
- One precision-molded aspherical element for reduced spherical aberrations and distortion and increased sharpness
- Super Spectra coating for reduced flares and ghosting and increased contrast
- STM stepping motor for fast and accurate autofocus quiet enough for video work
- Configurable Control Ring for changing a variety of settings, including aperture, ISO, and exposure compensation
- Rounded seven-blade diaphragm for smoother bokeh
Altogether, while you will not get the ultra-high levels of performance you will with the 50mm f/1.2L, the 50mm f/1.8 looks to be a fantastic option for anyone looking for an affordable 50mm. Check out the video above for the full rundown from Frost.
