A new BSI CMOS full frame sensor with 24-megapixel native resolution, 48- and 96-megapixel multi-shot modes, and a new autofocus system form the core of the SL3-S.
Video Features
The SL3-S records videos in a resolution of up to 6K and offers 3:2 open-gate recording, a feature that provides flexibility when creating video content for a wide variety of channels. For example, portrait format videos can be recorded in 4K, 9:16 without any loss of quality, and the field of view in recorded material can also be determined retrospectively. The SL3-S records HDMI-RAW in 5.9K at 30 fps to external display recorders.
What’s more, thanks to the fast CFexpress Type B interface, ProRes 4:2:2 HQ in 5.8K at 30 fps or C4K at 60 fps can also be internally recorded without any recording time limits. It is also possible to record directly to an external SSD hard drive via the USB-C interface, which further increases the flexibility of the SL3-S.
The result is a versatile camera that combines the highest image quality for both photography and videography with optimum working speed and reliability. The Leica SL3-S integrates state-of-the-art technology into an outstanding design. It also offers numerous new functions that ensure a professional workflow for producing audiovisual content.
LEICA is a Superb camera had to be to go to the moon and back and everywhere in between. I believe the race to be the best today is Video not so much Stills. Yes most all still functions are in all cameras today with on camera programs that have been there over the past film and digital camera builds with Manual Mode for the creative photographer.
The video part is just a puzzle for the only place to put a video is on digital media or on your computer for future watching. Yes also on the digital frames where images are a slide show.
Yes also we post our stills in the same places of social media to sell or to just show.
We have all brands of cameras to day capturing video and stills BUT I wounder what a camera would cost if just a still capturer? And if cameras had just video? My meaning here is how often do the video makers use the stills function and stills ever use the video? Would both styles cost way less and yes also there are different lenses for each also. Also look at most videos viewed on the news are those from people with the narrow vertical videos from cell phones, just handier everyone has one in their pocket!
Another question why are the phone videos processed in the phone where as the camera video has to be edited or processed first then can be posted, sorry I have no idea about video from a camera just all the programs are a many.
Wounder what would happen like back in the film days if there were just stills and film cameras.
The also question is, very few know this, when Sony A7 Mod 1's and 2's came out there was available on camera apps like "Digital Filter" and many others that took the place of off camera devices that later on up the ladder of newer cameras were put into functions. But when mods 3 or more they disappeared was it because of the video programs on the camera took more room? Just for info the A7 mod 1's and 2's are still being sold brand new but the app web site is closed to buyers and this year no more downloads.

If you look at the apps how many would be good to learn about camera functions from a beginner point of learning or maybe to be handy. Why would Sony stop the apps from being sold and downloaded while still selling the mod 1's and 2's. Also why not other camera makers not also have apps on cameras, no room maybe!
I still have my Mod 1's and 2's and all have the apps and I still use them. Both images were taken with the "Digital Filter" app and many sunset/rises and some water still blurry water.
I worry about the beginner and the learning of ways, I apologize for the rambling and off subject. But also is your camera with on camera apps worth more with than without the options.
