In February of this year, Sigma announced the next generation of their fixed lens professional camera series, the dp2 Quattro. We have had a bit of experience holding the new camera but none shooting with it. We expect that to change as today they announced the pricing and availability of the new camera, which will come to market at $999.
The first of a series, the dp2 Quattro will be available in the United States in early August. We can also anticipate the release of the dp1 and dp3 Quattro cameras with newly developed 19mm F2.8 and 50mm F2.8 lenses respectively in the coming months.
For a full rundown on the camera's specs, head over to our original coverage of the dp2 Quattro.
I'm pretty sure only the dp1q will have a new lens design out of the three of them, but then the 30mm is apparently already very good in the merrill's and I have the dp3m and the sensor/lens combo is outstanding. They also have 1/2000 flash sync at f5.6 (this could change in the Q's).
You really have to admire Sigma as a brand. Like Hyundai and Kia, they have really turned their brand reputation around. They are really producing quality products. I had all the Merrill before I sold them to go back to shooting my Fuji x100 original. The look of the files were nice and unique and really delivered a professions crispness to the shots.
I don't miss the slow right times, poor LCD screen, nor the troublesome raw processing. I really did love the cameras and I bet I would like these new ones too.
These guys needs to make a mirrorless already.
