A Review of the Sony FE 24mm f/1.4 GM Lens

The 24mm f/1.4 prime is a favorite lens of many photographers, offering a useful wide angle focal length with a large maximum aperture. How does Sony's version of the classic lens hold up in practice? This great video review takes a look at the FE 24mm f/1.4 GM lens.

Coming to you from Dustin Abbott, this great video review takes a look at the Sony FE 24mm f/1.4 GM lens. The 24mm f/1.4 lens is a favorite of anyone from wedding shooters to astrophotographers, as its versatility makes it a natural fit for a wide variety of shooting scenarios. Sony's version features two XA elements for better correction of astigmatism, spherical aberrations, and coma, three extra-low dispersion elements for reduced chromatic aberrations, Nano AR coating for reduced flares and ghosting and increased contrast, de-clickable aperture, dust- and moisture-sealing, a fluorine-coated front element for better resistance to dust, moisture, and fingerprints, and a rounded 11-blade diaphragm for better bokeh. Like all of Sony's G Master lenses, it features a lot of Sony's best tech, and altogether, it looks to be quite a useful and high-quality optic for lots of photographers. Check out the video above for Abbott's full thoughts on the lens.

I love this lens and wanted to buy it but I am done investing in anymore LARGE sony lenses. I am using the 35/2.8 Samyang and no one notices you when you take pictures. I wish Sony had a compact 24/2.8 similar to the Samyang 24/2.8 but with good optics. Whenever I have 35/1.4, 50/1.4, 24-70/2.8 lenses attached I cannot take a picture without people noticing. I walked around today with 35/2.8 Samyang the the pictures were just incredible because people did not notice. I felt like a Fuji users for the day.

This lens is the smallest I own. I find it to be very light and compact for a full frame. If it's too large for you, maybe Sony(or any) full frame isn't right for you.

Thanks for mansplaining my full-frame needs. Nikon and Canon both have large and small lenses over a variety of apertures whereas Sony is obsessed with speed over size. The Nikon 24/2.8 was one of my favorite lenses with Nikon and allowed you to work without people noticing or being intimidated by 1.4 glass. I'd buy the Samyang but the optical quality is not very high.

I find my copy has more distortion near the edge of the frame than i would like. I know most wide angles do, and it will be fine as long as no one is near the edge.
