Recently, Sigma dazzled us by announcing a veritable plethora of mouth-watering lenses. One of those lenses, the 100-400mm f/5-6.3 DG OS HSM Contemporary, is available for preorder, and it's priced very competitively.
One of the most practical lenses to come along recently is the 100-400mm f/5-6.3 DG OS HSM Contemporary. The 100-400mm is a staple lens for many photographers, providing supertelephoto reach without touching the stratospheric prices of supertelephoto prime lenses. Nikon has the AF-S NIKKOR 80-400mm f/4.5-5.6G ED VR Lens and Canon has the EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM Lens, both of which are excellent, but both are priced around $2,000, and while that's still much less than a supertelephoto prime, it's not small change either, which is why Sigma's new lens is so exciting. At just $799, it seems to be a very attractive option for many photographers. It's slightly slower than both Canon and Nikon variants, but I honestly doubt anyone will notice a difference of a third of a stop. Preorders are available now, with shipping expected in May. Remember, the Sigma 135mm f/1.8 DG HSM Art Lens is also available for preorder, with availability expected in early April.
