The Sony a1 Is Incredible—but There’s a Catch

After four years and over 100,000 photos, photographer and YouTuber Manny Ortiz still considers the Sony A1 a powerhouse. But in a recent video, he reveals a surprising discovery—one that could change how you think about using this flagship camera, especially with certain types of lenses.

Ortiz dives into his long-term experience with the Sony a1, praising its image quality, burst performance, and durability. From MLB games to African safaris, it has been his go-to camera for both professional and creative work. But during the creation of his new off-camera flash course, he stumbled upon something unexpected that he—and seemingly no one else—had noticed before.

This is a quirk of technology that Ortiz covered six years ago, and if you love fast lenses, it's definitely something to keep in mind. This issue isn’t about sharpness, autofocus, or even price. It's something more subtle—yet significant enough to influence his future workflow.

The video covers the pros, the frustrations, and the bigger questions around Sony’s flagship design choices. For anyone considering the A1 or already using it, this is a must-watch.

Would this be a factor for you when choosing a camera? Let us know in the comments below.

Such a profound yet subtle difference may be influencing the buying decision and probably would lead to changes in workflow. That feature is something you really want to consider before taking into account other things.

PS: I didn’t watch the video.

His bokeh balls are degrading. You really don’t want that happening to you. That would put me off the A1.
Just in case he doesn’t mention it enough he has a new course that he’s selling.

WOW! Sony cheats their buyer. No wonder it can shoot 30 frames in rawl with a non existing mechanical shutter.
