One crucial mistake a lot of us have made at one point or another (myself included) is taking new gear on a shoot. We only have so much brainpower to devote to a shoot, and if part of that is devoted to figuring out how to find a menu setting or the like, that takes away from our ability to interact with the subject or work through creative ideas. Similarly, taking too much gear on a shoot can lead to a sort of decision paralysis in which you end up agonizing more over what to use rather than focusing on creating the best possible product.
