The decisive step

Just started to get into photography over the last few months, still have to find my niche but I've really been interested in showcasing what life is like in the pacific north west. I still have lots to learn any criticism on this image and any future images is greatly appreciated.

I remember this photo I had stood in the rain for a silhouette I had in the back of my head, I managed to catch this individual taking photos with his phone before making the decision to actually use his umbrella and walk into the rain. I had a few different shots but for some reason decided on this one.

Shot on an xt20 18-55mm, f7.0, iso 800

I like this one! A great grey tone and love the background in the "mist". Great work! :)

thank you Gustaf you have some amazing images as well.

😍🤗🙌

Space to walk into, lovely tones and structures in the background provide interest without distraction. The step off and unsolicited pose of the key subject add to this really nice shot.

Thank you for your feedback Mike.

I really like everything about this image...the composition and the light and it's nice to see another Fuji user, there doesn't seem to be many of us ! 😁

Thank you Tony, it's always nice to meet a fuji user.

I'm here as well! :) Searched for a Fuji group, but with no great success.. maybe it's time to start one? :)

Oops, just created one. "Fujifilm users", please join. :D

Hi Jaspreet,
you have phenomenal start for sure. reaching to such image at the beginning is an achievement. an interesting story waiting to be unfold.
I have learnt a lot through such interactions and hence sharing. I feel the inclusion of 2nd line of piers in the sea would have added in completion. both full feet could be seen. sharpness. background sky/clouds could be enhanced.
this image reminded me about a very good and celebrated photographer. have messaged you the link separately. hope that would inspire.
cheers and happy clicking.

Hello Vijay, thank you for the encouragement. I really appreciate that. I did manage to snap a photo with both feet (As I have shared, the image is unedited), however I felt that this was the decisive moment where the choice to walk into the rain was made in this shot ( I also did fumble a bit with my gear as well, I was not as accustomed to my camera and lens combination, hence why I've started to shoot with primes for street). However I can understand where you're coming from as chopped body parts will always look a bit odd. I will definitely take your feedback into consideration for future shots. Thank-you so much for your feedback.

I disagree with the above. I think the shot you originally post is far more powerful than this shot here. The stretch in the walk, the composition, the tones are all superb in your original shot. In your original image it is very clear that what the subject is. If you enhance all the surrounding items it becomes too cluttered, distracting from the subject. It's a great shot, and of course these are my opinions, but for me personally, the shot you posted is a far superior one to this shot in your reply

Hey Jeff, thank you for your feedback. I respect your opinion and I feel like the first image I posted summarizes best the image I had in my head. I always feel that a simple photo can be the most powerful one and I'll always take that moving forward thank you for confirming my initial gut feeling.

Quite often, your initial gut feeling is best. I like your original vs the secondary image.

Story telling > Overly technical text-book crap

Thanks Eddie, I think so as well, I need to take this moving forward. Thanks for confirming my original gut feeling.
