A Stand of Trees

I came across this stand of trees and I liked the way the trees separate the ground and sky. Actually shot this through the rolled down window of the cab of my pickup truck. I have an ongoing project called Road Kill and this is one of hundreds of shots. Road Kill means I shoot all the images from my truck as it is just pulled over to the side of the road. I go out and just drive around backroads in the country, listen to music and look for things to photograph.

Thanks for posting Kent. That sounds like an interesting project - I am wondering if your choice of music influences your shooting style at all. Just a thought as I believe the arts overlap and music can certainly set a mood.

I really like this image and the distinct layers you have produced. For my own taste I am not sure if I would like a little more sky for balance, but this is just me wanting to understand options, no criticism of this wonderful image at all.

I am looking forward to seeing more from you. Please consider adding your voice to other discussions so that others may benefit from your viewpoint.

Thank you for the comments. My music choice when wandering about the countryside is predominantly Pink Floyd. I have been a fan of their music since I discovered them in the mid-70's while in high school. In my case, music has a definite impact on what I photograph.

In response to the crop, I have several crops of the same image, playing with more/less foreground and more/less sky. It is always interesting and appreciated to hear how someone else would like to see an image cropped.

The Road Kill project started out as way to shoot images for myself. I have been a contract/freelance photojournalist for over 20 yrs and rarely shot for myself. Over the past 5 yrs since starting Road Kill I have made hundreds of images, mainly seeking out old buildings, houses, barns, etc. Always looking for the abandoned structure, machine, barn, house, etc... The decay of the buildings holds a certain beauty as well as the grains and patterns that I come across.

I find the time alone to be therapeutic, socially distanced safe and time to be just be alone with my thoughts. I never really know where my wandering will take me.

Currently I have 7 images in a show with a local college that is addressing the issues of the working poor and poverty. If you are interested in seeing more of my work please check at my site at https://www.kenttarbox-photographer.com/.

Thank you again for looking and having an interest in my work.

Nice job, Kent! I like this image. Noting Alan's comment, I think I can understand why he might like it with more sky as well, which would be my first inclination in terms of composition faced with this scene. However, I think your division of area given to foreground/trees/sky works really well here, especially in the long aspect ratio panoramic format.

Thank you.
