Trying out duotone :D
This is a view outside my balcony
To prevent confusion I have put the original below
This is my third edit for the same photo
Comments appreciated :)
Sorry to say, Hunter, but I prefer the original. I don't mean to be discouraging, especially as I respect your open-minded and experimenting attitude. Can you put in to words what was behind this editing approach?
There seems to be some sort of orange/teal tinting fad of late, which I find hard to understand. Perhaps it reflects nostalgia for film and how it distorted colours, but although I grieved the demise of Kodachrome, since going digital I think it is better in every way, and have no interest in film simulation. But maybe that's got nothing to do with your thinking here. Curious. Tell me!
Uh...I didn't quite want to follow the orange/teal trend, so as you see, I changed the colors a little, and...I guess that the thing I most wanted it to appear is antique but not desolate. That's why I chose this color combination instead of a monotone of sepia or deep green, which I both tried. And...film simulation has it's own style and beauty which you will be able to appreciate once you start trying it out. If you just don't like it, you're not the only one (small chuckles here)
I have to say Hunter that my initial response falls in line with what Chris has to say. That said I appreciate that this is an artistic decision and respect that as long as it works for you.
I think if this had a mild sepia toning it may give a bit of a vintage feel but like Chris I'm not sure what the pinkish cast brings tio the image.
As I mentioned above, I tried sepia, but then the scene feels desolate and "dead", so...I switched. And...Are you using a calibrated monitor? I am in doubt about the color accuracy of my monitor, because I don't see the pinkish cast here on my newly calibrated one. So..Please tell me if my monitor is off color! Or...yours.
My vote is the original. Having said this, given this is the (awesome) view from your balcony, I think your time may be better spent getting back out there to experiment with different compositions rather than post processing an old image. The scene seems to have a ton of potential e.g. textures, but as a cityscape, there isn’t enough geometry in the skyline or dynamic elements in this specific shot that are enhanced by post. Not trying to be a jerk and hopefully this is constructive.

Definitely a pinkish cast, Hunter, on my calibrated monitor. A slightly orangey pink - peach you could call it.

Say what you REALLY think, Robert! I'm inclined to agree. Hope that doesn't make us both jerks. ;-)
