I have been reworking an old image that I thought was just lacking something. I'd love feedback on first impressions these evoke.
What do you like/dislike about these? which format? What might you suggest on how to improve?
All sincere feedback (both positive OR negative) would be appreciated.
I prefer the first version, Alan. The second looks somehow congested - perhaps it's all that dense texture with not enough softer relief to complement it. Having said that, if I were a croppper, I might shave a TINY bit off the bottom of the first one.
In that first image, the grass at the edges seems to funnel my gaze into the receding path down the trees, drawing me into the scene. By comparison, in the second I feel blocked out. The trees seem closer, even though they're not, so there's a kind of "in your face" effect for me.
Your subtle ICM/ME effect gives the ground a pleasing softness which complements the rich leaf textures beautifully.
Thanks as always for your input Chris - the first was the original but when I saw a thumbnail (square) I kind of liked that also. On further viewing I do agree that the first feels more open and inviting.
I also like your idea of the crop - I'll have to check that out.
As an FYI - the ICM effect was the result of the rework. I felt the original was too distracting.
I second what Chris said. I like the first much more for much the same reasons. I'm almost tempted to cut a little bit off the right side, but not very much at all. Chris has said my thoughts before I got here, so I don't have a lot more to add except to reiterate what has already been expressed. The mix of blur at the bottom adds quite a lot to the picture.
Thanks Matthew, itโs good to see some agreement in discussions now and again ๐
