They can be difficult to capture. I have found they can be predictable sometimes. They seem to fly to the same place 3 or 4 times then move on. So I prefocus where I just saw one and wait a couple minutes. If after 4 or 5 minutes it doesn't reappear, then I move on. As far as this photo, my preference is more backlight, it really shows off their beauty. They are somewhat translucent and backlight makes their colors pop. This one looks like a dried leaf, no offense. I usually shoot mine at f8 for good detail and less bokeh in the background
I have to agree with Brian somewhat Marcus. The lighting is very flat and the shape of the subject makes it really difficult to tell what we are looking at.
I think that an identifiable outline is needed when the subject is so small in the frame.
That said this is likely much better than I could achieve so I applaud your effort in taking on such a difficult subject. I look forward to seeing more.
