Agency shoot with some extras

This is from a shoot I did for a model/actor who needed some profile page photos for her agency. She brought along their guidelines which consisted of pretty bland stuff; headshots and formal full length shots. Part of the deal I made with her was that after we got the agency stuff out of the way we would spend an hour or so doing something different.

This shot is just a single strobe through a large octa directly above her and pointed downward; a bit feathered, and a large reflector laying on the floor.

This is soooo cool... great image. I know what you mean... get the boring stuff done and move on to creatives!

Thanks.

Yes, generally I try to work that into the deal when I do a paid shoot with models. I'll discount the price if they agree to an hour for some fun stuff after "business" is finished.

This is a really creative shot, something different and I love the lighting. Great shot, Daniel and I’m sure the model/actor is glad you asked to shot these after the formal shots! :-)

Thank you, Mark. Yes, she's happy with them. Doing these kinds of shots actually generate more opportunities for me than the formal, headshot or agency portfolio shots.

I bet it did, Daniel, and well deserved too. I think this is a big lesson for anyone conducting these shoots that just asking the question can open the door to other opportunities. I’ve certainly learnt something from this one image and your explanation. Thank you again 👍

I would be interested to know if the original brief from the model was influenced by what agencies want or what models think they want. I guess it could also be that different agencies - consumers, have different rules.

Good question. The "guidelines" were provided by the agency. They had example photos for "actor" "commercial" "fitness" "child talent", etc. Plain background preferably gray or white. Flat lighting or nearly flat. Avoid black or white tops in the headshot, that kind of thing. They even had example photos.

The guideline shots is what the model initially contacted me about. I gave her a "deal" if she allowed me to have a little fun after we finished with the guideline shots.

Thanks Daniel very informative. I am still at the start of the photo journey so the tips on a negotiation with your subject should be useful.

That is so cool. Love that sepia toning in photo and that creative vibe.

Thank you.

I really hope you phrase it differently at the time haha.
Great shot though

:) For sure. I generally say something like, "creative fun shots."
