How to Take Horrible Landscape Photos

You read that title correctly. Tired of your landscape photos looking like every other fantastic photographer's shots? Maybe you should be taking things in the other direction. If you need a laugh (and some good education), check out this great video that will show you how to take just awful landscape photos.

Coming to you from Mark Denney, this funny video will show you everything you need to know to take horrible landscape photos. I have to admit I laughed pretty hard and felt a bit ashamed when Denney got to the part about only using a wide angle lens. I was guilty of this for far longer than I would care to admit to. After all, we see a beautiful view, and we want to make sure we get it all in the frame; it is just a natural human instinct. Of course, though, not every scene needs to be shoved entirely into a single image, and you can often make much stronger photos if you zoom in a bit and isolate one or just a few interesting elements. Consider taking a longer lens with you the next time you head out. Check out the video above for the full rundown and a lot of laughs thanks to Denney.

Ha! A refreshing change from "The 8 Mistakes That Make You a Horrible Photographer!" Mark delivered it with so much conviction, I had to keep reminding myself he was being sarcastic.

#10 Never use any filters, just adjust it in post; #11 Never use a lens hood cuz lots of lens flare is cool looking; #12 Always hold your camera away from your body at arms length and use the LCD screen for your shots; #13 Use high speed shutter all the time to make sure you get lots of good shots with some in focus; #14 Do lots of close-ups of tree bark cuz that looks cool; #15 Avoid shooting when there is fog in the area, it will hide some of the scenary.

Had to take a peek at this to see if there were any more ways that I could do worse. Are there more things that I can do wrong? Apparently, there are!
