The challenge of woodland photography is finding a clean composition. With tree trunks, branches, brush, and way more all criss-crossing in every direction, finding a logical and easily digestible composition is not particularly easy. One of the best things you can do is either use a longer focal length or get closer to everything. Doing this allows you to reduce the number of things in the frame and thus, its complexity, and in doing so, you might be able to find a compelling composition that would not be workable otherwise.
