A Practical Tip for Improving Your Photography in 2025

Do you find yourself getting frustrated with your photography in the field? It is easy to fall into routines and practices that could hamper your photography and stifle your creativity. Are you looking for a way to break out of that as we move into 2025? This video provides a practical tip to help!

We have all been there with our photography. Either we are in a rut and potentially losing motivation, or we feel like our progress has stalled or slowed significantly. Or maybe we frequently get frustrated when photographing conditions or scenes that do not materialize as we pictured them.

Mark Denney shares several scenes from the Dolomites in Italy as he discusses several images. Denney starts with a scene that never came together, as the conditions were poor, with low water levels and less interesting light. Finally, on his hike back to the trailhead, he finds a much more interesting, unexpected scene, which results in one of his favorite images from the trip.

Denney explains what lesson that experience reminded him of to help remove preconceptions we photographers often head out with and break out of the box. He shares other examples of where practicing that one tip enabled him to come away from otherwise frustrating scenes with photos he was pleased with.

For me, this was a good reminder of what I have already tried to practice with my landscape photography and to keep this tip in mind when I head out to photograph.
