What New Landscape Photographers Should Focus On

When you are new to landscape photography, there is a lot to learn: camera settings, forecasting and planning around conditions, reading light, and more. One skill stands above all else, and this great video tutorial makes a case for why it should be first on your list when you are learning the genre.

Coming to you from Henry Turner, this excellent video tutorial discusses the importance of working on your composition skills as early as possible in your landscape photography pursuits. One of the hardest challenges of landscape photography is that you get no control over the placement of the elements in the scene, which makes composition a particularly nuanced and tricky skill to get down. Nonetheless, while understanding things like post-processing and camera settings and the like is important, artistic treatment of composition and light are what take a snapshot and turn it into a way of looking at the world that the non-photographer would never have imagined. The sooner you can master it, the better. Check out the video above for the full rundown from Turner.
