With almost 900,000 subscribers combined, these three YouTube photographers are extremely popular. But how does their photo-taking ability stack up, especially when pitted against each other?
In the modern landscape of social media, there is a very fuzzy, ambiguous line that separates photographers who make their living from photography, and photographers who make their living from views on social media. Some might even argue that the latter should not even be called photographers, but that's a topic for a different time. What's absolutely certain is that it's harder than ever these days to make money exclusively from taking and selling photos. Therefore, many people, including myself, have ventured down photography-adjacent avenues to obtain extra income. However, does popularity on social media equate to skill with a camera?
That brings us to this great video by Nigel Danson, in which he faces off in a landscape photography battle with two other popular photographers on social media: Mads Peter Iverson and James Popsys. The rules of the competition are simple enough: they have one hour in one location to come up with the best possible shot. If I'm perfectly honest, I like the work of Mads Peter Iverson the most, but interestingly, he has the fewest subscribers on YouTube. Nigel Danson has more than double his combatants, so is that statistic reflected in the final images they all produce? I'll let you be the judge, but it's a fun video that shows how the three go about their work. Let me know your thoughts in the comments below.
What a pointless comparison, three people taking different, mostly horrible pictures on a shitty weather day. I'm not even watching the other two videos because I'd rather spend that time going out and taking photos myself.
