A Practical and Effective Portrait Lighting Setup

Understanding lighting is crucial to becoming a successful portrait photographer, and few do it as well as Lindsay Adler. In this helpful video tutorial, Adler breaks down one of her most useful lighting setups and shows you how you can recreate it and customize it to your exact needs.

Coming to you from Lindsay Adler with Adorama TV, this fantastic video tutorial breaks down a very practical and success lighting setup for portrait photography, including the key light, fill light, and background lights. I really appreciated her point about aiming to create what is right for you and your clients, rather than creating complexity for the sake of being impressive. We sometimes equate complexity with higher quality, but when we design lighting setups, we should not be aiming to make things as intricate as possible. Rather, we should understand what our clients want and find the most pragmatic and straightforward route to achieving that in order to create an efficient and practical workflow. Check out the video above for the full rundown from Adler.
