What You Need to Know About the Latest Lightroom Update

As some users registered problems with the latest version of Lightroom (both CC and Classic), Adobe has released an update to remedy issues. Read on to see if you've been affected.
The continual updates of Lightroom often see new tools and bug fixes added to the roster of housekeeping for Adobe, and though the latest update is relatively small when it comes to additional features, there are some key changes that couldn't come soon enough for some users. There's been an update of cameras and lenses that are now compatible with Lightroom, including some bug fixes and issues that have been addressed.

Cameras Now Supported

The latest Lightroom updates include upgrades for features and an extension of supported camera and lenses.

There aren't many updates here, but for Apple, Nikon, and Parrot users, there are some useful changes to Lightroom. The below list now all offer raw file format support with camera-matching profiles only available for the Nikon Z fc and Parrot ANAF Ai and not the Apple iPads listed. Although, you'll have to ensure that the minimum camera raw version you're running is 13.4 and Lightroom has to be at least version 4.4 with Lightroom Classic at 10.4.

  • Apple iPad Pro 11-inch (3rd generation)
  • Apple iPad Pro 12.9-inch (5th generation)
  • Nikon Z fc
  • Parrot ANAFI Ai

Lenses Now Supported

As you might expect, the updated iPad compatibility is also reflected in the lens support as listed below, but Adobe has now also included two Canon telephotos and Samyang's AF35mm wide-angle lens, as well as the Parrot UVA lenses.

  • Apple iPad Pro 11-inch (3rd generation) back camera 3mm f/1.8 (DNG+JPEG+HEIC)
  • Apple iPad Pro 12.9-inch (5th generation) back camera 3mm f/1.8 (DNG+JPEG+HEIC)
  • Canon RF 400mm f/2.8L IS USM
  • Canon RF 600mm f/4L IS USM
  • Parrot ANAFI Ai (wide and rect) (DNG)
  • Parrot ANAFI Ai (wide) (JPEG)
  • Samyang AF 35mm F1.8 FE

Issues Fixed

Some users reported issues with Enhance Super Resolution failing on macOS when the original file is in a Quick Collection. Adobe has apparently now fixed this issue. Windows owners were also reporting Lightroom Classic slowing up due to a GDI handle leak, which also appears to have been taken care of.

Some Leica DNG files were not working with the Guided Upright feature, which makes it difficult for any architectural use for sure, but that has now been patched. Other issues now addressed: Lightroom Classic crashes on launch, incorrect Smart Preview count displayed in the Metadata browser, and duplicating a Collection Set, not including any collections inside the Collection Set.

I honestly cannot believe that Lightroom has now become the de facto standard in the industry, It is a bug filled, bloated piece of crap software that continually fails no matter the release. It is the case for me and I see it online for others as well.

My rant has nothing to do with subscription fees either. It’s the continuing bugs that have made it impossible to use no matter which version or which machine I run it on. Currently I cannot even get it to open and the Adobe engineers can only fix it for a day or so before it goes haywire again.

I’m a long time Bridge to ACR to Photoshop user. Since these other Adobe products work reasonably well and are reliable I can only surmise that the catalog feature of Lightroom is where the failings are. They need to start over with a brand new product in this category. I suspect they will since the word classic indicates something in the past.

why they dont rebuild the code in Lightroom from the Ground Up again i cant understand.. lightroom is soo BAD and slow!
