St. Ludwig is the most important Catholic-Church in Darmstadt. Its striking dome rises in a prominent position above the city center at the end of the boulevard-like Wilhelminenstraße. St. Ludwig's Church is also popularly known as the “Käseglocke” or “Kääsglocke”.
Around 5000 Catholics belong to the parish (2015).
Ludwigs Church was built between 1822 and 1827 according to plans by Georg-Moller as the first Catholic church in the Landgraviate of Hesse-Darmstadt since the Reformation.

For being almost 200 years old, this church has a very modern design. It may even have been modernized in the meantime. But I haven't read anything about that. Many thanks, Paul, for your kind recognition. Greetings Herbert
Hebert, looks very Orwellian especially with what look like an upside down eye of providence within the domes spirit hole.
