Washington State Ferry System

The Washington State Ferries system is the largest ferry network in the United States, operating 21 vessels that connect communities across Puget Sound and the Salish Sea. Serving as part of Washington’s state highway system, the ferries transport both passengers and vehicles, providing an essential link for commuters, island residents, businesses, and visitors.

Inside each vessel, passenger cabins offer seating, large panoramic windows, cafeterias on many routes, and open decks for viewing the surrounding waterways. For many Washington residents, a ferry crossing is a routine part of daily life; for visitors, it offers one of the state’s most scenic travel experiences, with views of forests, mountains, and the waters of Puget Sound.
