Captured on the first day of summer at Point No Point in Hansville, Washington, this photograph shows an adult Bald Eaglecarrying a freshly caught fish over the waters of Puget Sound. With its white head and tail, dark brown body, and powerful wingspan, the Bald Eagle is one of North America’s most recognizable birds of prey.
Point No Point is one of Washington’s premier birdwatching locations and has one of the largest recorded bird species lists in the state. The combination of strong tidal currents, productive marine waters, sandy shoreline, and adjacent coastal marsh creates habitat for a remarkable diversity of wildlife.
The abundance of fish and marine wildlife in the surrounding waters supports a healthy population of Bald Eagles, which can often be seen soaring above the shoreline, perched in nearby conifers, or hunting over Puget Sound.
