Every year, the Bangladesh government imposes a 58-day fishing ban from April to the first week of June to protect the breeding and growth of marine fish stocks. I visited Naziratek shortly after the ban was lifted and witnessed an extraordinary scene as huge catches of fish were unloaded amid heavy monsoon rain. For the fishermen of Naziratek, the monsoon brings not only rain but also hope, abundance, and long-awaited relief after weeks without fishing.
