Lightning over Central St. Louis

28mm · f/4 · 10s · ISO 50

Perhaps the most electric moment I've ever captured in a single exposure, this thunderstorm rolled over St. Louis' Downtown and Central West End just a few nights ago.

As soon as I saw the lightning start to flash, I set my camera up on its intervalometer and shot several hundred ten-second exposures over the storm's two hour lifespan. In this one, the Central West End's growing skyline absorbs two massive bolts.

Shot at 28mm (cropped), f/4 on a Sony a9. Exposure was 10 seconds at iso 50. Beyond cropping, only basic adjustments were made in Lightroom –– exposure, tone curve, color temperature, sharpening, and lens corrections. No compositing, stacking, AI additions or removals, masking, or color grading. Sometimes the shot lets us keep it simple. This is my favorite of those moments.
