Deep in the heart of Shenzhen, China, OnePlus is burrowed inside the teeming tech hub. With the smartphone race being dominated by major manufacturers, it’s difficult to see OnePlus competing. They’re hoping that hard work and keeping their pulse on the upcoming available technology, that they can take on the best.
The Verge interviewed Carl Pei, the co-founder of OnePlus. He admits that their previous generations of smartphones didn’t tout impressive cameras, but that claimed “that’s what we’ve really chose to focus on for the OnePlus 5.” They’re not joking – the new flagship device is taking cues from Apple and placing two camera lenses on the back. This will allow them to achieve that all important “Portrait Mode.” If Apple’s new commercial is anything to go by, it’s still a big deal in the mobile imaging world.
Will it hold up to the competition though? The majority of the work went into creating stellar software to back up the cameras. We’ll be seeing 16-megapixel f/1.7, and a 20-megapixel f/2.6 cameras — both Sony. The latter will be a longer lens, allowing the camera to achieve real zoom functionality without losing quality. They’re up against Apple, Huawei, and LG, none of which are implementing the cameras in quite the same way as each other.
With their formal announcement event this week it’s exciting to wait and see if they will truly deliver. If they can run alongside the major manufacturers, then there might just be hope for a plucky company in Shenzhen after all.

To beat? Apple is beaten a long time ago if you look at other's phones camera. Not only this one. You should have in mind that producing iPhone cost 150-180$ which is not case in other phones manufacturers.
