Sometime around 3 a.m. this morning, I awoke to a strong light beaming through my bedroom window. It was the supermoon glowing big and bright. I crawled out of bed, grabbed my camera gear, and set up a tripod on my tiny patio in Amsterdam to shoot the famous supermoon lunar eclipse — that phenomenon that happens only a few times each century.
Within a couple hours, I had captured a whole series of exposures with my Canon 6D paired with a 70-200mm f2.8 L (and oh, how I wished I had an 800mm for this)!
I quickly edited them and uploaded my final work to my Facebook profile and Instagram. Then, I got lost in all the amazing photos of the supermoon posted by fellow photographers. I scoured social media to discover some of the best photos of this year's rare sighting. Here are a few of my favorite finds.

This is the photo I took last night around 11:09 pm atlantic time in Labrador. It is not very clear, but I am very proud to have photographed it since I am quite sure I won;t be around for the next one. The photo was taken with nikon coolpix L110
Clouds were thick... didn't peek for even a nanosecond.
So I'll just enjoy revisiting this one from 12/21/2010. Shot on 40D (maybe a T2i?) with 70-300mm potato. I forget the exact settings, but stopped way down for deep focus and zoomed max. I know that I used my Chuck Taylor shoepod - I recall my toes going numb. o_O

The clouds all day threatened to block the moon, but they parted I time for me to get the shot that I had planned. This shot shows the blood moon behind the clock tower of the Santa Barbara County Courthouse about 8:00PM PDT. Shot with a Canon EF 400mm f/2.8L IS USM on a Canon 5D Mark III.

Here is my shot Oxfordshire, UK
Battled rain, clouds, fog, mist, haze and getting kicked off the public pier right at the moment of the full eclipse to capture these shots at Folly Beach in Charleston, South Carolina. I also met Fstopper editor Chelsey Rogers for the first time at the pier, so a pretty successful outing! I used a Canon 7D Mark II with a Canon 100-400mm lens.
Here's my version of the Supermoon 09/27/15. I didn't want to do the typical moon shot, so i went for a little more creative approach. Drove to the roof of the South Point Casino parking garage in Las Vegas and captured this shot. The light streaks were achieved by manually moving the camera up and down as the shutter was open allowing me to get the light streaks from the city below, then edited in post later.
Had a little fun with the super moon over the Denver mountains as my buddy tries to light paint. Slayer! Ha, who comes up with that idea :)
My favorite shot of the super blood moon captured as the clouds seemed to part just in time for us to view the beauty of our world. 100-400 mm Canon L series on 7D mark ll body.

The weather in Calgary was looking quite mixed but turned to thick cloud cover during eclipse time, except the eastern horizon so I went out anyway! The moon appeared from behind the clouds for about 10 seconds and then hid again. I did manage to get a shot of the moon as it was coming out of eclipse phase and used it in combination with another long exposure shot from the same night to create something pretty extreme! I'm just starting to learn more about Ps, if you have any suggestions (other than "don't post digital art composite garbage on fstoppers") feel free to let me know! Church and Sky (Canon 5D2, Sigma 15mm 2.8 Fisheye, 30", f2.8, ISO 100), Moon (Canon 60D, Canon 70-300 taken at 300mm, 5" at f.5.6, ISO 100).

Interval of 1 hour is missing full during full red moon due to low clouds coverage, but I was hoping that strong wind will blow the clouds away. It happened and the scenery was continuing with nice moon descent and vanished in clouds on sunrise
