CBS Gets Creative During Shutdown by Filming Entire Episode of 'All Rise' via Videoconferencing

As the COVID-19 continues to shut down a wide variety of industries, television networks are not immune to its effects, leaving them to get creative. CBS is taking a unique approach by filming an episode their show "All Rise" entirely via videoconferencing platforms.

CBS announced that an episode will be produced entirely using Apple FaceTime, Zoom, and Cisco WebEx videoconferencing platforms, with backgrounds created using visual effects. Furthermore, the episode will specifically address the pandemic, featuring "characters dealing with the effects of the COVID-19 shelter-in-place rules and how the coronavirus pandemic affects the criminal justice system there.” Footage of the empty streets of Los Angeles will also be shot from a car. Executive producer Michael Robin is slated to direct the episode.

Many industries are embracing videoconferencing platforms as a means of continuing to work during the required social distancing and lockdowns across the world. It is a great way to maintain at least part of your business and contact with clients for the time being, particularly as it is not entirely clear at the moment when we can expect to return to some semblance of normalcy (you can read some tips for videoconferencing here and here).

The episode will air on May 4 on the network.
