Reddit has become a place where people have truly come together to help make a difference in others lives. Recently, a grieving father, Nathen Steffel, posted a simple request to have a picture photoshopped which resulted in a response that was more than what he expected. His daughter, Sophia, passed away Thursday after a long battle in the children's hospital. All he wanted was an image of her without tubes because he never had the chance to take one.
“Since she (Sophia) was in the hospital her whole life, we never were able to get a photo without all her tubes. Can someone remove the tubes from this photo?” Steffel told Today.com
The Reddit community began to post photoshopped images in response to the fathers post. Steffel and his wife were more than overwhelmed with responses and overall, surprised.
“I didn't really want all the publicity, I just wanted a picture. . . What I received was a whole lot of love and support from complete strangers.” Steffel told Today.com

Sophia was born on May 30 and lived for six weeks due to be diagnosed with a liver tumor called hepatic hemangioma, according to today.com and Steffels post on Reddit. The daughter spent most of her life at the Nationwide Children's Hospital which is located in Columbus, OH. After awhile there, she was moved to Cincinnati Children's Hospitral Medical Center, where she was to be met with liver surgeons and experts to care for her. Sophia was put ona waiting list for a liver but passed away on July 10.

This story is a great example on the positives of the use of photoshop. Sure, people use it to remove weight, wrinkles, and change facial features in ways that are deemed negative, but in this case, people helped give two grieving parents a view that they never had the chance to see. They were able to see their daughter tube free for the first time ever.

Ugh. As a brand new parent of a three-week-old daughter, the thought of this situation makes me feel physically ill for the couple and for their baby. The actions of the Reddit community are inspiring, but this was very hard for me to read. This one brought tears to my eyes, not my usual reaction to an fstoppers article.

Having a child myself this was absolutely heartbreaking to read while heartwarming at the same time. My heart goes out to the family and I hope they were able to find at least a little consolation in the pictures they got.

I struggled to find the words for this post, but I think all that needs to be said is that there are still a lot of good people in the world. And that photographs can can carry a high value to its owner beyond any dollar amount.
