Sigma Announces the BF, a Minimalist Full Frame Mirrorless Camera

Sigma has officially announced the Sigma BF, a full frame mirrorless camera designed with a minimalist philosophy. The BF strips away traditional camera complexities while retaining high-end imaging capabilities, offering an intuitive user experience.

Key Features and Design

The Sigma BF features a unibody aluminum construction, carved from a single block of aluminum over the course of seven hours. This design choice enhances durability and provides a balanced weight distribution when paired with compatible L-Mount lenses. The camera’s controls are reduced to a single dial and three haptic feedback buttons, with settings accessible through an intuitive touch interface.

Instead of a traditional shooting mode dial, the BF allows direct control over shutter speed, aperture, ISO, exposure compensation, and color mode. The interface focuses on simplicity, with a live view display showing only essential information, while a separate status monitor highlights the active setting.

Imaging and Video Capabilities

At its core, the BF is built around a 24.6 MP full frame back-illuminated CMOS sensor, designed to provide high resolution and wide dynamic range. The hybrid autofocus system combines image plane phase detection and contrast detection, with subject tracking that supports human and animal detection.

For videographers, the BF offers 6K video recording and L-Log support, allowing for high-resolution capture with enhanced dynamic range. The internal storage of 230 GB eliminates the need for SD cards, capable of holding over 14,000 JPEG files, 4,300 uncompressed raw images, or 2.5 hours of high-quality video.
